Episode #5 - September 2019

·       An interview with Maureen Taylor of Photo Detective and oldpvd.com.  Maureen has been enjoying solving mysteries around old photos for years and has been called the ‘nation’s foremost photo detective’ by The Wall Street Journal. She is based in Providence and recently, launched a mapping site of historic properties in Providence. You can learn more about Maureen, her work with photos, her site about historic homes in Providence, and her podcast by visiting maureentaylor.com.

·       The Southside Cultural Center of Rhode Island has been a space for community offerings since the mid-1900s.  Today, it looks to be the “go to” location for an eclectic assortment of arts, culture, and community celebrations.  Recently, Richardson Ogidan, the executive director of the center, and the newly appointed program director, Taylor Jackson, joined me in the studio at What Cheer Writers Club to talk more its history and the vision for the future.  For more information about the Southside Cultural Center – the website is sccri.org.

·       A new segment: 7 & 7 – 7 questions in 7 minutes featuring another podcast.  In this debut: Chris Revill – host and producer of Let’s Chat – it is a long form conversational podcast featuring guests from the world of comedy, music, podcasting, tech and more. To learn more and subscribe to Let’s Chat – you can find the show on Stitcher and other listening apps. See below for links!

·       Daytripping with Denny K.  Well, that’s a working title for this new segment that features interviews or reflections on things and people that I discover on my various adventures around New England.  For my first offering, a chit chat with Nate Cozzolino of Mad Cap Mondays.  It is an open mic at Dusk on, wait for it, Monday nights.  I got there a tad early so I convinced Nate to do an interview on some new mics I got and he was totally game to do so. For more information about Mad Cap Mondays, check out the link below.

I am pleased to share that Artclectic New England is supported in part by a grant from the Department of Art, Culture, + Tourism. Thank you, City of Providence!

Artclectic New England has a new community partner: The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra.  The arts organization has been providing access to classical music for over 100 years! I’ll include a link in the show notes so you can check it out. In the meantime, the first person who can answer the following question, and follow the instructions in the show notes, wins FOUR tickets to their Holiday Pops show taking place on Saturday, December 14.  Now here’s the question:  Who is being featured at the October 7, 2019 Mad Cap Monday open mic? Once you have the answer, check the show notes for instructions. The first person who successfully gets the correct answer to me gets the tickets.

Thanks to Maureen of oldpvd.com, Richardson & Taylor of SCCRI, Chris of Let’s Chat, Nate of Mad Cap Mondays and Riot Act Media for today’s closing music . I would love to hear from you, dear listener – comments and questions – if you got some, send them on over to artclecticNE (at) gmail.com or leave some comments on the show page. And, Anita Crackinstuff will be back next month with more shenanigans on Don’t save the laughter for After, if you know what I mean.

Thanks so much for listening and if you enjoyed today’s show, please share the link with all of your friends on social media.

I’m going to end the show some music by Sean Henry. The musician hails from CT.  Check the show notes for the link to learn more about his work.   This song is a track from his new “A Jump from the High Dive” album, titled SURF SONG.

Have a great day and thanks for listening!
