Resource: What Cheer Writers Club - Providence, RI

Upon arriving in Providence, I started hearing about a new resource:  What Cheer Writers Club.  It is a non-profit supporting Rhode Island's makers of written, spoken, and illustrated word.  As a blogger and a podcast producer, I made beeline down the space on Westminster Street to get the scoop.

What Cheer Writers Club is a membership community supporting all kinds of writers in Rhode Island, including:

  • Writers, editors, journalists
  • Graphic novelists, illustrators, comic creators
  • Indie publishers, agents, writing-related organizations
  • Podcasters, narrators

I met with one of the founders, Anne Holland, a co-founder of the non-profit to do a tour and to learn about the benefits of becoming a member.

The gorgeous space offers an option to use co-working spaces, a board room for meetings, and classroom to teach a workshop, and a salon to host an evening celebration.  There is also a podcast studio that is to also include a digital editing bay.  Access to most of the rooms are also available to the general public for a fee while members gain access at no cost for writing-related use. The exception is the podcast studio - that is only available for members at an hourly use fee that is very reasonable.

As a member, you also have access to meet up gatherings, use of the postal address, and publicity opportunities.  Content creators have access to three ways to showcase their work:
  • Member Wall of Fame - a place for your book, zine, or promo card.
  • RIters Resource - a mention in the biweekly newsletter.
  • Pressing Matters - your event listing in the news feed.
